    What a dilemma.

My son, who just got 4 new SM8 wedges, gave me his old SM5's; still with lots of life in them. He gave me a 46F, 50F, 56M-bent to 55, and a 60 M. Well I'll tell you, I've never been a 60 degree wedge guy but after yesterday, I dumped my current 58 and put the 60 in the bag. All I can say is WOW. Wish I'd gone to it sooner.I hit some really nice pitch shots and recovery shots with it yesterday. I did the same with the 56M, which leads to my dilemma; what to do with the 54 S grind I currently play.I love the M grinds interaction with the turf on chips and pitches, and how I'm able to open the face. When I bought the 54 s I didn't think there would be much of a difference between those 2 grinds, but the difference is significant.I had both in the bag yesterday for comparison and liked the M grind better.

I don't have a gap wedge, so I'm thinking of bending the 54 to 52, and trying to find a spot for it in the rotation.

I agree with you on the M grind. I play a 56M and love it. Its my primary club around the greens.

Looks like you are gapped pretty well on wedges with the 46, 50, 55 (bent from 56) and 60. 4-5 degrees is within the recommended range.

If you bend the 54 to 52 I believe it lowers the effective bounce (someone here please correct me if I am wrong). Might be more of a full shot club at 52 degrees. I play a 52 degree F grind since the gap wedge in my T200s is 48 degrees and I need to gap to the 56 degree.

BTW, I think what you have here is a 3rd world problem. lol

My first set of Vokey's were M grinds. then a club pro told me that I should be in a S grind. I'm sorry that I did. Now I'm back to the M grind. I think that the M grind is the best all around grind, especially for the average player.

I just completed a wedge fitting last weekend and I was amazed at the M grind's performance. There are so many combinations with grinds and lofts that a fitting is mandatory in order to to see what works best.

No fittings around here for awhile, and I needed to get a new 56. Looking at online fitting, they recommended the 56-S for what I wanted. When I tried to buy, they did not have one and said they would order it for me from Titleist. Got a call yesterday informing me that due to the order backlog it would be 3 to 6 weeks just to get that wedge. After reading your posts, I told them to get me the 56-M that was in stock. If it doesn't work for me, I'm blaming you guys.

I have a 54-10S that I bent to 52 and it works very well. I also have a 60-14K bent to 58 and it actually gets under the ball better than 58-M. I played a 58-08M bent to 56 for ages. I got hooked on K grind when playing Torrey Pines in 2018.

I ordered the 56M in the sm8, came from a 54S in the sm6. I just can’t get along with the M grind, I just constantly stick it in the ground. So, I am ordering the S grind and will order the 60L, I love my sm6 L grind. So, the M grind with the project x shaft in it is going on eBay, I really wanted to like it, but just doesn’t work for me.

Lou, let's forget about loft for the moment; how is it even possible to get a .14 bounce under the ball better than an.08, not even mentioning the K grind which is "really beefy"compared to the M or S. I get it if your talking about bunker play, but rough, fairway or closely mown areas? Not sure what you attack angle is but it must be really steep.

If i had to try and get under the ball with a .14 k instead of a .08 M or S, I'd skull everything.

Gapping and grinds are always a personal preference and very dependent on the course conditions you play in. If those conditions change drastically it is a good idea to have a couple sets of wedges and then select them based on the expected playing conditions.

Still playing 44-52-58-64. 46-10F bent to 44 in place of the 9/P. 54-10S bent to 52 all around pitching. 60-14K bent to 58. Wedgeworks 64W. The 64 is my go to in greenside bunkers.

Minor update: added 9 iron and changed the PW to 48-10F bent to 46. I used 50-08F and 58-08M for ages. 2 years ago I switched to 54-10S (bent to 52) and 60-14K (bent to 58). Was getting under the ball better with the K grind vs M and much more consistent with the S grind vs 50-08F on pitching.

I attended a Vokey fitting a Pinehurst and was set up with a 58.12D sand wedge. Works great out of the sand and on the fairway. Am looking to upgrade to the SM9s when they are released next year. Currently play the 53W that comes with my T300 set, but in talking with my fitter will probably upgrade to a SM9 52.08F and 58.12D the Vokey team recommended for me on the sand wedge. Will get the same shafts that came with my T300s. Chrome of course.
