Question for those who tinker with their clubs/shafts. I am a 16 handicap and 66 years old, and play 718 AP1 irons through pitching wedge, with SM8 wedges 48, 52, & 56 originally with standard TT Wedge Flex shafts. Still hit the ball pretty long and mostly straight, but with putting and chipping it's always a mystery whether they plan on showing up. Have the KBS Tour 90 R in my irons, and recently put a Modus 3 wedge 105 shaft in my 48. Really happy with it and want to re-shaft my 52 & 56. I get differing opinions on whether to stick with the same weight class through all wedges or go with a bit heavier for the 56. As an amateur my thought is the 105 for all of them for forgiveness but some people are saying go with the 115 for the 56 for better control. Anybody else have any input?

I always stayed with the standard wedge shafts (TT Dynamic S200) until this year with my SM9's. I got them to match my T300 shafts (TT AMT Red R300) and while not noticeably different due to my personal inability to be a really good player, they seem to have a more consistent feel, especially on full shots. I think I will keep matching my irons to wedges in the future.

This is the first time I’ve carried the same iron shaft through my wedges and I’m pretty sure I’m going to end up going up a weight and soft stepping them, or going to the wedge version.

In the bay I liked the feel of the continuation the most, and didn’t see much of a different in terms of dispersion and distance, but on the course it’s been a different story. I hit mostly full shots in the bay and now that I’m hitting a lot of partial shots I’m not feeling it.

In the Nippon Tour 105-S, so gotta get back in the bay and play around with some partial shots between the wedge 105 or Tour 115-S soft tipped.
  4. You're already going 15g heavier in your wedges than in your irons, so I'd stay at 105 in the 56. You won't see noticeable difference in control by going any heavier and could even lose some control on full shots. Going even heavier in your 56 MIGHT cause you to unconsciously swing harder to engage the heavier weight on that club (trying to make it feel and load like your other clubs) and lead to inconsistency.

Stay with the same shaft in all your wedges.Nippon Modus 3 is a great shaft, either in the 105 or 120 weight offering.
