Being from Rochester, NY myself, I was excited to see you reference Oak Hill.   Without a doubt that is a hidden gem in an otherwise anti-golf climate region.  However, my favorite has to be Oakmont.  I have been able a couple Opens there and the viewing experience and course lay-out/design is outstanding.  Add on the history of the championship played there and the stories that unfolded and it's nearly the perfect host if the USGA had to select one course.

I'm a fan of Kiawah, Congressional, Pinehurst, and Pebble Beach.  I like each one for unique traits making it hard to pick one over the others.  I feel like each of those courses brought something to the tournament without needing to grow insanely long rough to be a tough test.

I vote Pebble Beach.  Its our country's old course.  Followed closel by Shinnecock. 

Shinnecock Hills despite the fiasco with the 7th green in 2004 is a great venue, and is near the top.  Oakmont has the history with Johnny Miller's final round that you may hear about this weekend on the telecast.  Merion last year was fantastic and showed that the course doesn't need to be 7,500 yards to be a stern test.  I love the atmosphere at Bethpage (being a native New Yorker may cause some bias).  So many great venues that it's tough to choose a favorite, but those would be my top 4.  I think the new Pinehurst will turn a lot of heads this weekend.

I attended the PGA championship last August and was lucky enough to witness Duffs attempt of.history on Friday and I can see why you would pick Oak Hill. What a fantastic classic lay out, it definitely has stood the test of time.

I also loved the look of the the Olympic club in San Fran 2 years ago, and Congressional also would get the Nod from me.

several come to mind like Congressional and Oakmont. But to me, I love our National Championship played at Pebble Beach.  It's just a course I've always loved seeing on TV and is definitely on my golf bucket list.

I lived in the area at the time of the 2009 US Open at Bethpage Black and went to that.  I really like that course.  I am partial to the public course so everyone can play there so Bethpage, Pebble Beach, Torrey Pines and Pinehurst would definitely be up towards the top of my list.  Private ones I would love to play Oakmont, Merion and Oak Hill would be fun to play one day!!!! 

Being from OH, I'm a HUGE fan of the Inverness Club. There's a lot of great history there. Very nice course to play. Definitely one of my favorites.

Great topic.  I love the US Open being at courses you can play, and not sell a kidney to pay for greens fees.  Bethpage was awesome, and so was Torrey Pines.  I guess I'd have to vote Torrey, just because of the scenery.  

It's not public, but I'd love to see Cherry Hills get back in the Mix.  Oakmont and Olympic are classics too.  There's too many good choices out there...

I would LOVE if just one year the PGA, PGA TOUR, and the USGA could manage to pull off a double shot in Georgia!  Imagine if the powers that be at Augusta National would allow the USGA to grow out the rough and set it up for a US Open.  Back to back majors at the same venue with extremely different setups!

Honestly, I don't think I would like to see another tourney at Augusta.  Especially with different conditions.  I think it would take more away from the Masters than it would add to the US Open.

And even if Augusta members started to get on board, they close the course all summer, so really it's just never going to happen.

Being originally from western PA I have to say Oakmont is the best US Open site.  It's the only course to my knowledge that slows the greens down for professionals tournaments!

Having been a longtime Westchester County, N.Y. resident before moving to FL , Winged Foot gets my vote. I was there in 1984 when Fuzzy beat the Shark. Sunday and the playoff.

Pebble Beach as my #1 (and having played it 3 times myself) and then Olympic Club.

I love Winged Foot, Pebble and BPB. 

There is just something great about playing 18 Saturday and Sunday morning and getting home in plenty of time to watch the Open on the west coast @ Pebble.

Many great ones mentioned and I cannot disagree with any.  However, I'd love to see Dubsdread get the chance.   It was Joe Jemsek's dream to host the event and, even though he is no longer around to see it, I think it would be a fitting reward for all that he and his family have done for the game.

I live near Toledo, Ohio and live near Inverness Club which hosted two US Opens and two PGA Championships and a US Senior Open in 2011. I think Inverness Club would be great for a U.S Open knowing it's history with golf. The course has just had some renovations and is trying to attract the PGA. I also wanted to give my home course Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania, Ohio a shoutout because they are about to host the LPGA Marathon Classic!

The courses I would like to add to this impressive list are three heartland courses - Bellerive, Southern Hills and Oak Tree National.
