At my age (63) there is pitch count now... so about once a week, 30-40 balls going down P-8-6-HB-Driver or alternate G-9-7-5-FW-. 8 balls each with P-8 or G-9 then 5-6 with the rest.

But I now spend more time pitching, chipping & putting a couple of times a week.

The reality is many of us are not going to the range as much as we should...for whatever reason. For me, time is what keeps me from the range. During my rounds at my club, I do my best to get there early, so I have ample time to warm up and that's when I get my "range sessions."

I try to go to the range 1-2 times a week to hit balls. I also spend time chipping/putting. I usually try to keep it t a medium bucket, maybe 65 balls. Helps me focus on specific items i'm working on. I've found if I hit too many balls, I get tired and my swing starts go south.

My schedule changed dramatically once I retired and moved to the Phoenix area. Our neighborhood is a 55+ community with four golf courses and almost half the residents are seasonal. November through April all our courses are so crowded and the rates high so I concentrate on spending most of my time on the range and chipping/putting greens. It totally shifts in the summer where I have afternoons to myself and can combine practice with play directly on our courses. Works for me.
  5. I got back into the game this time last year after a hiatus of 7yrs. I got to play Pebble end of '23 - that was my 're-inspiration'.
I've joined a club with a decent range, TopTracer etc, and I usually get the 3 nights a week while the days are still too short to get 9 holes in after work.
I usually hit 200 balls each time and 100 before I play in the comp on a Saturday. It's really helped me learn new shots, swing types. Pretty much self taught too
I've managed to get back already to my old handicap (mid single figures) which I'm amazed at, and hopefully going to chop 2 shots off it this season. I feel this is achievable given the time & work I've put into golf during this winter season - I'm just waiting on beautiful days now so I can get out there and prove myself

A caveat to all this though is the worry about wear & tear on my clubs given how much use they're getting - I don't want to be buying a new set every 2yrs! ‍♂️

I try to go twice a week. One day for irons, woods and driver, the other day for short game. I don't hit large buckets anymore either. I try to save my back.

At a grass range, I can hit perhaps 40 balls before I'm bored. As others have stated, hitting worn range balls can be counter-productive.
If it's hitting off mats, then 15 balls are about my max as my elbow starts barking!
I find it more beneficial for me to roll putts on the practice green and work on my putting!

Usually 1/2 hour before the round. Will go more during the spring to get the swing back :)
  10. I will practice my yardages and club gappings for an hour and then I try to spend an hour on short game as well.

I go 2-3 time a week. If i'm not playing that week I'll get a large bucket of balls i'f I'm playing it will be medium. I do like the suggestion of playing the course, I also use rapsodo MLM to turn the range into a simulator for myself. my home course has a practice bunker, chipping green and putting green so I focu on things I didn't do to well on the course.

I a fan of getting your swing back then head to a fitter to evaluate your sing and make sure your equipment is working the best for you. During my break I went from s300 shafts to Project x 6.5s and it made all the difference. Kept the same irons for a while before I decided to upgrade but every now an then I like to hit my old ones.
  12. Our course was closed for most of last year for a renovation, and I was at the range almost everyday. I now try to play 9 rather than go to the range so often. I find I improve more if I hit balls at targets than bang balls on the range. Our range was part of the renovation, and I think it was better prior to the renovation. Some of our target greens are difficult to see, and there aren’t any down the middle. They are also at odd yardage, and that makes it a bit harder to dial in clubs.

I try to get to the range twice a week after work when the weather is decent. Usually hit 60-100 balls and then chip and putt.

I go to range twice a week and hit about 30 60 balls, depending on how much work needed for my driver and irons.
I don't trust the distance and spin of balls at the range.
