Hi
Tried the black ball version and noticed immediate difference off the club face. Alot quieter than Red number.
Seemed to control the spin better around the green too.
distance wise I didnt notice much difference than the other test ball.
I like them both, probably just edge the Black Test Ball as I shot my lowest ever round of 75!! Playing off 9...

Thank you Titleist,
I received my package of Test balls about two weeks ago, I deliberately refrained from writing a review until I had the chance to test them properly. I have now completed 7 competitive rounds with them and the first point to make is that for a 'performance' ball they are extremely durable. The current conditions in the UK are perhaps not entirely suitable to test golf balls, with soft, wet conditions there is no run at all on our fairways and the cold damp conditions reduce distance through the air. Despite these adverse conditions, both balls produced long, straight tee shots, at least the equal of my regular NXT Tour S balls.
Of the balls on test the red numbered one seemed to offer slightly more distance with the driver, but the black numbered ball has become my absolute favourite, it is long off the tee, stops dead on the greens (with my Vokey Spin Milled Wedges), and feels as soft as butter when putting. Despite extensive use of my wedges, both balls kept their appearance really well over several rounds of golf. The only downside is that I have lost one of my favourite black numbered balls, it wasn't a bad shot, just went into some leaves at the side of a green, so if anyone finds a black 1 Titleist 'Test' ball with a distinctive red and green alignment mark on it, please hand it in to the Pro shop! If Titleist would like to send me a few more to test when the conditions improve I would be thrilled.
Please let me know what models I have been testing (my guess - ProV1 and ProV1X), so that I can buy some - many thanks for the experience and the opportunity.

Thank you for the test balls.
i found them very durable but not too firm to be lacking in feel.
the weather conditions were not great, they did however fly straight and my usual distance.
I would purchase these if they were reasonably priced.

Played my first round with the balls I received I found that they were a bit hard for me. Black number were a bit softer than the red but I feel if it wasn't so wet on the ground at the min I think they wouldn't stop as quick as I'd like but on a hole I'd say a great Winter ball.
Cheers

I have tried the ball with red number on.
Fantastic results, best ball I've ever played with.
Never a ball could influence your game so much.
The main improvement was with my driver. The ball went a lot higher in the air, and I gained around 20-30 yards.
Also good feeling on the green
will try the other one now !!!
thank you

Having already played the black numbered ball and left feedback earlier, I have now played the red numbered ball.
It was actually quite a mild day for the time of year with little breeze. If only there were more days like this in Scotland at this time of year.
Really nice feel off the driver with good distance. Mid irons had good flight and short irons shots were landing softly. The hits I was getting from my hybrids were the most impressive with straight flight and great distance. I estimate about 5-10 yards further than the Szn I usually use at this time of year.
Putting is harder to comment on as we are playing on heavily sanded greens but I like the feel of this ball off the face of my putter.
Durability is excellent with very few scuff marks despite the sanded greens.
I think, on balance, the red numbered ball just shades it and I would happily purchase them. I sincerely hope we get to hear what they are before next season.
Once again, thank you Titleist for letting me try these test these balls and I hope my feedback has been of some use.

Thanks for the two sleeves of balls, Red and Black numbered.
This may not be the best time of year to test balls.
Black Ball. Great flight and seemed to have a bit more carry, but can not comment on roll due to wet ground. Felt a bit harder than the red ball off of the putter. After a few holes found confidence with approach shots.
Red Ball Flight seemed higher than black ball but still good distance. Soft feel off irons especially chipping and putting. Good soft feel off the putter.

Have now used the red numbered ball for a few rounds & have to say that I found it as good as any other ball I have used recently
Having used the ball from the competition tees in winter, on a course playing 6600 yards with little roll I have found that I have lost very little if no distance. In the colder weather & Into the wind it is very stable & doesn't give up much yardage.
Off the tee it provides good feel without being too soft & gives me a better flight than with other, higher spinning balls (swoosh one Tour D) With my irons it's gives great feedback again without spinning too much & definitely gives me a better ball flight. It spins & stops without spinning too much.
I have a tendency to cut balls with my irons but this ball has lasted a couple of rounds without a mark which is fantastic.
Off the putter it feels better that others Titleist models I've used. It's soft, stable & provides great feedback but not so soft that you have to putt harder (if that makes sense).
I have also managed my lowest gross score at my course using this ball & am looking forward to finding out what model this is as I may well switch when it's released....
I'll be using the black numbered one next time I play & will provide a review then.
Thanks again Titleist for this opportunity & for another great product.....

Hi many thanks for the chance to test new balls.
Played 3 rounds with one of the black numbered balls with very little signs of ware. I Like the feel off the driver and the Irons, putting was a strange experience as the ball flew of the putter for the fist couple of feet and slowed really fast, but covered the same distance of green on the flat as my normal ball. Found it difficult to judge uphill to downhill puts at first but got used to it the more I played. Sad to say the ball meet a watery end which was a shame because as a winter ball it played better than my normal winter ball.
Have also played 4 rounds with a red number ball, its still in the bag and will be played again next time out just to see how long it will last, the damage is minimal which I find amazing as its been in a few bunkers. This red ball feels Heavy off the driver and travels a little further than the black ball. With the irons they feel ok, and and have been consistent in distance through all the rounds played so far, putting not much difference to my normal ball.
The greens have been soft so I have not commented on approach shots or chipping which can wait until they firm up a bit.
Overall the black ball has it over the red ball at least for winter, have put the last 4 balls away to try when the weather warms up a bit and will see if I change my mind.
Hope this feedback helps.

Now had 3 rounds with the test balls. 1 full round with each of the red and black numbers then a sneaky 9 holes on my own using both of the test balls and 1 of my normal NXT Tour S.
Both balls felt nice off of Driver, Fairway metal and Rescues with the red perhaps feeling a shade softer. Preferred the higher trajectory of the red ball and strangely, I seemed to get an extra yard or 2 with it against the black BUT, almost 10 yards against the NXT Tour S
Short Irons and Wedges much preferred the softer feel of the red and it stopped well. Definitely outperformed the NXT
Bump and Runs saw the red ball pull up well and after a few shots it felt quite predictable and as a result confidence building.
Putting - A different story here both during the "test" rounds and after half an hour on the practice greens. Felt the red ball to be quite soft off the putter and at times, almost "dead". The black on the other hand felt slightly harder and consistent. Both rolled true but I frequently found the red ball drawing up short.
Overall I preferred the red ball out of the 2 and would put it into play in preference to my NXT Tour S Just wish it felt a bit better off my putter

Firstly, thanks for alowing me to trial the new balls, unfortunately due to the weather int he west coast of Scotland I have had few opportunities till now to play and give feed back.
As a high handicapper normaly using a Velocity I was impressed with both balls.
The red was not too disimilar straight drives with a little more distance good feel about the greens.
Black I felt was hitting a lot higher with all clubs and if pushed or forced tended to drift right , however the big difference
was on the putting green where roll and feel was really good and my putting improved even on heavy greens.
Looking forward to playing them again in the near future even on winter greens.
Thanks again

I got my two sleeves of test balls a few weeks ago. I've not played with them a couple of times so here goes....
I started with a 'red' numbered ball. It's possible it was just me and being early in the round but compared to my usual ball there was a different sound off the driver that made my uncomfortable. It's not like the ball acted poorly, just didn't sound right. Distance was fine (for me) and can;t comment on drop and stop power as it;s wet and winter in the Uk now so everything was stopping! In short, no real issues, just the difference in sound.
After playing a par 4, a par 5 and a par 3 i switched to a black numbered one. After that, that was all she wrote. Great ball, at least as long off the tee as my regular ball and, could it be a coincidence that i was just swinging well in the two round as since but it was a consistentyl straighter flight than I'm used to too! I've certaihnly been getting 'summer' distances with the 'black' ball even in cold winter so very happy. Even more happy to be straighter than I'm used to. In the two rounds I've played with it I've even got some good drop and stop too. Certainly a good ball for my level of play (hovering anywhere between 11 and 13 lateley) and when I find out exactly what it is (the cover didn't look like a prov) I'll be buying a box to proper compare when it's a little warmer.

Received two sleeves of balls, red and black numbers.
Played two rounds and they are fantastic.
Getting great distance from both with a slightly higher ball flight from red.
Great control with the short irons with high approach shots being accurate and spinning so that ball ends up inches from pitch mark. Both spin we'll with great stop on chips and pitches. Red feels a little firmer ball than black. Both great out of the sand.
Both have helped control spin when trying to shape shots making me more confident when needing a gentle fade or draw.
Off the putter face they are good giving good roll and consistent feel and helping with distance.
The ball surfaces are also very good. On some premium the surface cuts up with wedge shots after a while but these still in good condition apart from a little dirt. Can't wait to try them on a dry running course. I would love to try these in the summer when air is warmer and fairways running faster. I think they will greatly help make long par 4s and 5s more reachable with shorter approach shots after longer drives.

From the two sleeves I found the red numbered balls to be more responsive at my swing speed. Which lead to good control of distance and trajectory and spin. On the other hand I found the black numbered balls to feel a little dead off the face of my irons and a lack of stopping on the greens, but gave good distance with the driver.

I received 6 prototype balls in November in the post, marked 'test' - 3 red and 3 black numbered.
I used the red numbered initially and this felt good and solid and had similar characteristics to the Titliest NXT Tour ball that I use.
My pleasant surprise was when I used a black numbered ball. One of the rounds was a greensome competition so I gave my partner (who normally uses ProV1) a test ball so that we were both playing the same type of ball after choosing a drive.
My initial thoughts are that the ball seemed to offer more hang time and distance off the tee particularly with driver where I felt this added some 10 -15 yards to the carry on my drive, but as the fairways are soft there was little run. The ball felt very solid off all the clubs, as if the ball was really compressing on impact and gave a satisfying sound off the driver. Wedge shots offered soft feel on contact and good stopping spin on the greens, but soft wet greens. Chipping around the green the feel was soft and felt good. Putting with the ball again felt soft and came off the head with a nice sound and good speed..
I used my ball for a further 2 rounds and the ball did not scuff up at all, so good durability.
All in all my initial impressions and my partner’s were very positive and I would certainly be interested to know what ball I tested and when these balls are available to purchase.
