The two sleeves were a pleasant surprise as was the lack of identification. The test should therefore be objective as possible. It has taken a while to use the six as I have found the balls to be very durable. They have a firm feel off the driver, and give good distance. I think the spin rate off the tee is fairly low as they flew straight even in wind. The feel off irons felt similarly firm but not uncomfortably so and again they held their line. The soft greens at this time of year made it difficult to assess stopping ability but I got the feeling they would be above average in this area. On the green the balls felt good to putt with and very similar to the NXT tour S I usually use. All in all a decent ball with no obvious cons. Looking forward to finding out their specification.

Many thanks for the test balls. The wet weather has prevented me replying until now

conditions make it difficult to comment on short game characteristics but the red ball showed good distance and penetration. certainly a ball I would use in the winter. The black ball seems softer and I had a noticeable loss of distance off the tee

will be interested to see the performance around the green in firmer conditions

thanks again for including me in the test

Got my 2 sleeves of test balls a few weeks ago and have taken time to play using both. As a direct comparison I felt red numbers offered slightly more distance with a reasonable stopping with full shots to green. Black numbers were not so far off the tee but overall felt softer and had better stopping power even with half shots into green. Both balls lasted quite a few rounds before showing signs of use. Overall would be happy to play with either but a slight preference for the red numbers.

Eventually got out today to test balls - got similar distance with both (fairways were still very wet). Black no's seemed to check a little more on chips. Think I would choose the black over the reds, but only just.

  5. The new test balls are excellent. They appear to hold a straight line better. Very good feel for chipping and great for putting. Probably just right for my 17 handicap. Which ball is it? Mike Wilson
  6. David,

In my earlier e-mail I meant to apologize for not getting any feed-back to you sooner but it has been a very wet winter and not the best of conditions to test golf balls. There has been no run on my home course for months, except when the ground was frozen. I have now tried the test ball on links courses and was really pleased with the results.

    Yours

    Mike Wilson

  7. Did not lose any distance and  so good round the green.

I would use the ball from now on if I knew which model it was!

  8. Hi David,

Due to the very poor winter so far I have only had the opportunity to try 1 ball (black numbers).

The initial impression was that the coating felt thicker than normal and this gave the ball a very soft response around the green. Off the tee it was very long. So overall the conclusion is very positive apart from the fact I did not complete the round with the ball as I lost it!

    Regards.

  9. Hi David,

Update. I have now tried the red numbered ball and find the coating not as thick as the black. Hence a little too hard for around the greens. However it goes as far, if not further, than the black off the tee.

    Regards

Both balls are longer off the driver and irons than my normal ball, a Wilson FG Tour. The red numeral ball is the longest and appears less likely to spin left or right. It's not quite as controllable as the black around the greens, but has a good amount of control and I prefer it to 2012 ProV1x.

Black numeral plays similar to an FG Tour but with perhaps half a club extra distance. Both are good balls, but they didn't displace the FG Tour as my best scoring ball. For some reason, it performs better for me on iron shots (particularly mid-irons) than any other ball I've used, and that is the weakest part of my game.

Thank you for allowing me to test the balls, Duncan (8 Handicap. 95mph swing. Balls were used during Western Cape summer - sea level, some days with strong winds.

Many thanks for the opportunity to test these balls.

I am a 28 handicap players, having really only been playing for three or four years, picking the game up as I retired.

I found them excellent, and was getting about 15 to 20 yards extra distance on a drive, and a good ten on an iron, and also a good deal more consistency.  To be honest, I've never thought that the ball made any difference, and simply played with whatever came to hand.  It was something of an eye opener to discover that it did make a difference.

Sadly, these seemed no easier to find in the woods, which seems to be their only down-side.  I will certainly buy them if I can find out what they are

I totally agree with Peter C's comments about the balls. My handicap is now 26, and the extra distance is noticeable, to extent that I'm using a different part of the course to usual.

They both play well in the wet, but unfortunately, they get lost or drown in ponds (now small lakes) just as other balls do.

It now seems worthwhile getting fitted for the right ball and I  look forward to finding out what trial balls these are eventually.

I've one of each left for tomorrow.

I have been playing with test balls for the last couple of weeks and am impressed with the distance and feel off both woods and irons. I have been hitting the ball at least 10% further than the PROv 1 that I currently use.the ball I have been testing looks like a hard ball but plays like a soft ball around the greens. Closest comparison is with the NXT tourS .thanks to Titleist for the opportunity to try them. I will leave more feed back when the course dries out and the ground is firmer.

Do we know what they are yet ? Thanks Waveney

  15. Hi, sorry for the delay on feedback, my course has been closed due to bad weather. Anyway I found the test balls with the black writing to have the best all around game, I loved the feel off the club face on driver and short iron. The red ones in my opinion didn't have the same feel. I am a ten handicap and usually use the Nxt tour S.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I have been testing the balls you sent to me and I have only admiration for them. I am no expert but they seem to stop on firm greens very quickly and for my standard (14hcp) seem to fly quite straight and have a good carry distance. I normally play with PTS Tours and this new ball is quite similar. Putting wise I think it as good as my normal ball for feel and distance judgement. Thanks Joe

Thanks for the 2 sleeves of golf balls, one with black numbers which I presume is the new NXT Tour and one with red numbers, the new NXT Tour S? The red numbers ball had noticeably increased spin, especially with wedges into and around the greens. The black numbered balls offered less wedge spin and less side spin from my driver and longer irons.  I'm going to my Pro Shop to purchase a dozen NXT Tour's to start the new season with.......................

Pleased to have been part of the new Titleist 2014 ball testing. Just viewed the videos of  NXT Tour, Tour S, Velocity and Solo appraisals. Great advert for us amateurs! I am currently trying out NXT Tour S - remarkable difference to my control and distance. First time out with it won the money playing a Stableford competition in my club's Senior section and handicap has reduced 2 strokes!

I was sent 2 packs of golf balls for testing.  There were 2 packs of 3, one with red numbers and one with black numbers.  I was really impressed with the 'black-numbered' balls and I wonder if you could identify these from the new range of 2014 balls just released as I would like to purchase some?

    Thanks

Thanks for 6 test balls received a while ago now, 3 red and 3 black numbers. Difficult to test properly in weather conditions we have had lately but both seemed very similar. The dimples in the black look slightly larger than red unless my eyes are playing tricks. They both seemed very similar to the NXT Tour with possibly the black having the edge.

  21. First it was a nice surprise to even receive some Test Balls.

So, I've tested them, did a bounce test, by that I mean dropping my usual GB and the Titleist, found the T to have more bounce, interesting.  To play with , it was great to Putt with, great feel. Soft as I would call it.

on the course, good distance and control.

all in all a good ball.

this us from someone who does not play with Titleist

  22. Thank you for the two sleeves of balls marked Test. I usually play the DT Solo. In comparison my shots of the T were fairly similar however shots into the green were high and straight with a great soft feel. Had to club down as these balls travel a good 1o yards longer than my current choice. Due to the soft ground not sure how they are performing on landing as they just stopped! My shots normally roll on a bit!
