    or

    PW 46, GW 50, SW 56, LW 60

Does it make more sense to have a 4 degree gap between your GW or your LW?

Great question for your fitter but in any case I can weigh in. FWIW I would go 4 degree gap between PW, GW and SW and let the gap be larger on LW. Rationale is that I (personally) treat the 60 as a specialty club for around the greens, in bunkers etc. Rarely do I use it as a full swing club whereas the rest of the clubs get a more even workout. My two cents - YMMV.

That's exactly how I use the 60, and I use it around the greens the majority of the time. I feel like the 54/56 is for full shots, sand shots, and chipping. I did the online Vokey fitting and it also recommend the 54 as well.

My gaps are PW 44, GW 50 bent to 49, SW 54 and LW 58. This gives me yardages from 125 yds with a smooth swing to 80 yards with a full smooth swing.

Bob Vokey says the ideal loft gapping is 4-5 degrees in the higher wedges. It depends on how you play them as well.
  6. PW and GW is (at least for me) more of a yardage gap (distance) decision than the SW and LW. I rarely if ever use a full swing on my SW or LW, but I have good distance options on less than full swings. Once I am inside 60 yards the lie will dictate which club I use, I have the 56.14F and the 60.04L, but for full swings i have the 52.12F and the 48.10F. I would pay more attention to the grind/bounce than loft in the SW and LW

    My gaps are PW AP2(716) 45°, SM7 50° bent to 49°, SM6 52° bent to 53° and my favorite SM7 56°.

Have you considered maybe bendong the SW so you have a 5° gap. That is honestly what I would do.

Same. I went with 46,50,55 (54 bent to 55) and 60. Couldn’t have been happier.

I have 46 PW, SM6 50, 54, and 60. Love the gapping and having options for every situation.

My basic wedge setup is 44-50-57-64. I just added a 54-10S.

My distance gaps for the basic wedge setup are 115-100-80-65. I get 90 if I put in the 54. I rarely use a full swing with the 57 and 64.

Previously I had 52 and 56 degree wedges. I've gone to 54 and 58 for a couple of reasons. First I'm no longer able (64 years young) to get 100 yards out a 56. The 54.10S is perfect at that distance. The 58.08M has really proven useful around the greens and in bunkers.
  14. I think it would depend on if you like hitting your 54 vs 56.. I had the same issue and I went with 46 / 52 / 56 / 60.. as I like the 56 for my 95-105 shots.. Great set up either way!
  15. I think this will depend more on your style of play, the course and conditions, rather than just a stock answer.

I currently have 8 wedges depending on how I play, the course and conditions.

As a general rule the 4-5 degree gap past 50 is good to follow, but I have seen Vokeys bent to 53.75 and 55.5 before, so really go get a fitting, and then think about how you will play the wedges.

I have 46 - 52 - 56 - 60. To me it's all about the distance gaps to ensiure you have proper distance control ability.

    44-50-57-64. However, I’m using 44* loft in place of a 9 iron.
  18. Between 4-6 is pretty good. If you can get your number out of them that helps. For me I have a 43* 9i. What works for my range is a 48(bent to 47) 52, 56, 60. Those give me the best shot from 140 yds and in.

I have 2 sets of wedges too, one for the hard conditions that we get in Texas, that have very low bounce. and a set with more bounce when I play on more lush courses.

Wedges are the scoring clubs, make sure to get something that works best for your game.
  19. Once I moved to a set of AP3's which has the PW at 43 I had to redo my gapping too. I now carry the PW, 48, 52, 56 and a 64. The 64 is almost never hit as a full shot and the others give me great control in the scoring zone 135, 125, 110, 95
  20. I think wedge gapping is overrated. Choose your wedges for the kinds of short shots you normally face. The pitching and gap wedges are for full shots for most players, with the occasional chip, pitch and run, and long bunker shot. If you hit your 46 degree pitching wedge 130 yards a 50 degree gap wedge will probably go 120. Now choose your lob wedge based on the types of short shots you face most often. Do you get a lot of chips from tight lies? Does your course have firm greens requiring a soft high lob? What is the rough like around the greens you play? Your middle wedge should be the one you can depend on every time from a green side bunker. Having wedges that you can depend on for these scoring and shot saving scenarios is more important than having exact 10 yard gaps between your wedges. Let’s say you hit your middle wedge 110 and your lob wedge 100. What do you do when you face a shot where you want to carry the ball 105? What do you do when you want to carry it 78 yards? You are always going to face less than full shots. Learn to hit them and choose wedges that help you.
  21. Get the 56 bent to 55 and PW to 45

44-50-57-64 works for me. Little difference between a 54-10S and the way I have my 58-08M set up. I use 44 instead of a 9 iron. Iron gaps are 26-30-34-39.

    44-50-56-61-64. I put an SM8 58-14K (bent to 56) and SM5 62-08T (bent to 61). I’m using the 46-10 in place of a 9 iron.

Currently in the same dilemma myself. Just for new irons and the PW is 46. 50/54/60, 50/56/60 and 52/56/60 are all options. Leaning words 50/54/60 at the moment. I may hit a full LW once around, but mostly use it around the green. I think the 54 will will be better for my approach than the 56 I had.
