I tried the new trial balls (red number)in moderate to testing conditions. I play on a cliff top in-out course and the wind was around 15-20 mph. I found that there was less side spin than my normal Pro v1x and the flight was penetrating through the wind. It did not feel as long normal I still got a few out there. I seemed to hit more fairways than normal, but this may be the fact I was not trying to lose the ball! Iron play was good, with a nice balance of carry and run off. The play into green was more hit and roll than spin back, although since switching from png S57 to AP2s I have been getting less backspin. The feel on and around the greens was excellent and you felt in control of the ball when judging distance. I would say more Pro V1X than Next Tour as they had a thinner softer cover. Overall these are an impressive ball, although given the reduced side spin they may not be for someone who likes to move or spin the ball a lot, however higher single figures to high teens/low 20's will find them acceptable.

Conditions: Cold but dry with little wind.  Greens were very receptive.

The balls were excellent.  Found that there was greater distance using these balls likely to be 10 + yards with each club.  My playing partner drives the ball as far as me if not longer and i was well past him each time (he used normal Pro V).

Our irons are normally one club apart ie if i use 7 iron he has a 6 out.  Being cold i expected to be taking a club more than usual however i was hitting the same club as normal even in cold conditions  My playing partner was taking a club more then he usually takes so we were 2 irons apart.

Couldn't say for certain about more or less spin around the greens as the greens were very receptive in any event.

Found the balls perhaps a little bit harder when putting.  I would tend to be a "dead weight" putter & perhaps be short of the hole however i was usually well past the hole (by several feet on a few occassions).  Wether this was the balls or my putting was hard to say.

Looking forward to playing again next week.  For interests sake i was 2 over par which gave me 40 points  -  very please with that

Thanks again Titelist - a very good ball.  Thanks for including me in this test

  3. Thank you for sending me the test balls. They are excellent, slightly higher flight. feel soft and go a little further. very responsive around the greens. Once again a great ball by Titleist. Are they being released in 2015?

Had the chance to play three rounds with what I think must be the new Pro V1. I would start by saying that I played the ball in pretty soft and wet conditions, there was next to no run on the ball both on the fairway and coming into the greens. It has been quiet on the course when I have been out and was able to play shots with the current Pro V1 and Pro V1x to try and get a better judgment on the new ball. I typically use the current Pro V1 when I play. Overall I found the ball compared favourably to the 2013 Pro V1. With the driver and woods, the ball flight seemed to be quite similar to the current Pro V1. Given the time of year and windy conditions that I was playing in, I was attempting to try and flight the ball down quite frequently and I found it very easy to do that with the new ball which is a big positive. Iron shots into the green were very good. I felt that I was able to shape the ball into the flags very easily. With shorter irons it's all about how quickly the ball can come to a stop for me and I found I was able to play these shots with a penetrating ball flight which again with the wind was great. I have in the past found that this to try and get the penetrating ball flight to deal with short shots into the wind that the ball has spun too much and ended up coming fizzing back often off the green. With the new ball I didn't feel like I had to really work hard to get that flight and as a result the ball landed on the green with a lot less back spin. The durability of the ball was impressive and on short shots the ball felt brilliant. Overall, I was very impressed with the ball and the biggest thing that I took from it was that it just seemed to be so controlled. Now if only I can play well all the time and take advantage of the control that it offered.

Got the new balls recently.  Nice soft feel and usual Titleist high quality finish.  Can't wait to try them out.  Will report back here when I do.

    campbeltown,

Played this weekend with 1 of my sleeve of 3 test balls , the first thing i noticed was they loohed and felt the same as the prov1's i normally play with , only that they seemed a softer feel on the club , more so on my irons , they stopped great on the greens , and even at this time of year i was managing too put some screw back on my wedges , to which my partners were asking how do we manage to get some of these balls to test , but seriously these ball look and feel great i would not hesitate to buy and play these if they were put into production , the distance of the tee was if anything just the same as the prov's i play normally , i would like to have tried them in the summer to see if there was any difference in the hotter conditions once again a great product from the number team in golfs played by pro's and amateurs . 7. Thanks for the balls, its always great to receive an unexpected gift :)

Been trying the balls over the last couple of weeks.

First off i thought the feel of the ball was good, that soft yet firm tactile skin. instantly you know you should be getting a good feel around and on the green.

This pleasingly was the case and i found it a very easy ball to judge the roll.

Chipping, although not the strongest part of my game, the results were pleasing plenty of spin available (when i caught it right).

Driving was again very good nice sound and seemed to have a modicum of forgiveness when not hit directly from the centre.

This is a ball i would buy and stick with.

    Cheers

  8. Thank you for my sleeve of 3 balls. I am now over 70 years of age and have a playing hcp of 8. My best

hcp was plus3.  I can honestly

ssy that they are an excellent ball in every way. They have agrest feel throughout the bag, especially on the putting green. They are scuff resistant and retain their colour well. A great product.

Thank you for the test balls sent out in October. Have only just got around to trying them last Saturday. The weather was cold and wet and there had been a lot of rain so difficult to give feedback on roll and length. Off the tee the ball felt good and solid and seemed to travel fairly straight, which is always a plus. Approach shots felt good but did not get the feeling that there was a lot of spin, however a lot of shots stopped fairly dead due to soft ground. Putting felt really good and the ball seemed to roll exactly where I aimed it. In the end I want round in 31 putts so something must have been working well. The sound off my driver was very different from normal but not in a negative way and when I hit them with the Titleist 915F demo 3 wood I'm trying from our pro-shop I was very impressed (ball and 915F!).
  10. I took delivery of my sleeve of test balls three weeks ago, so I've had the chance to trial them over three rounds (I know that using them in a round isn't quite as scientific as hitting them on the driving range, but I liked the idea of testing all aspects of their performance (long game, short game etc.)

The first conclusion I have reached is that these balls give me more distance with every club, when compared with Pro V1s. It isn't a full club more, probably averaging around 7 or 8 yards on approach shots (7,8,9 irons and wedges) and between 10 and 12 yards with the driver. To be honest, the extra distance with the driver is less important than with the short clubs, as - in effect - I was taking half a club more on approach shots and didn't leave a single one in a bunker! (So, for example, where I believe I hit my 8 iron to 150 yards, it's probably more accurate to say I hit my best shot to that distance but more often I'll only make 142 or 143. Using these balls, my 8 iron was hitting 150 consistently). Also, since I have been playing these balls, I have found that my short iron approach shots are stopping quickly with a bit of 'bite' to them. It is true that the course is wetter now than it has been all year, but I'm fairly sure that I'm getting a bit more spin than usual.

The result of that (getting to the green in the first place, and then stopping the ball on it!) was a rapid increase in confidence, and in my first trial round, I won the final club competition of 2014! As we all know, to win a comp. everything has to go right on the day, but I'm convinced that confidence has a lot to do with that and confidence flows fromn hitting the ball as far as youj think you're going to hit it! it couldn't just be coincidence could it?

On the putting greens, I can't say that I can really tell a huge difference between these balls and Pro V1s, although I have putted particularly well while I have been using them. Judging the line is unrelated to which ball you're using, but my distance control has been as good as I have ever known. I'd love to put that down to the trial balls! I suspect, though, that improved confidence has a lot to do with it!

All told, my trial of these balls has been a real joy (especially the win!) and based on three rounds, I'd say that, for me, they are an improvement on my Pro V1s. It's just a shame the season has ended!

Conditions: Dry but cold with little wind.  Greens were quite soft & receptive.  Handicap 6

Distance: Found the ball to be at least 10 yards longer with each club.  My playing partner is usually the same distance with the driver if not longer & i was well past him every time.  With irons i would be one club more than him (ie my 7 to his 6) however the difference was 2 clubs with this ball.  It appeared to fly very well even on a colder day when everyone was saying the ball wasn't flying as far.

Greens: Hard to say of the ball was stopping quicker or not as the greens were quite wet and were very receptive anyway.

Putting: Would tend to be a dead weight putter often leaving putts short.  With this ball is was generally past the hole and was 3 or 4 feet past of a couple of occasions.  Slightly better ball striking or bad putting – take your guess  lol

If I could play as well each week I would be happy.  Was 2 over gross which gave me 40 points – very happy!

Thank you for the opportunity to try the new prototype balls. I currently play off 4 and play to a consistent level. I have managed to play a few rounds with the new ball (Red Number) in St Andrews where it is in great condition for the time of year. I felt the new ball was more solid off the face and was particularly evident when the wind was up. The ball flight seemed stronger in the air than the current pro v1x with it going more through the wind rather than ballooning into the air. Performance with the putter and wedges was similar both in feel and spin in comparison with the current pro v1x. The biggest difference was the more solid ball flight and with that I gained a few extra yards of distance. I tend to spin the ball up a lot and this was something that definitely will help me. Distance control should improve with the more consistennt flight. Thanks again Neil

Finally got out on course to check out the test balls that you sent me.

On first inspection they feel a high quality product as expected from Titleist.

They have a good sound on impact off the driver and I seemed to be getting a little extra distance compared to the ProV1's I normally play with, was getting a good low flight into the wind and my normal fade didn't seem to be as pronounced as usual.

Was getting good feel off the clubface on my pitches and they seemed to be getting a good check when landing on the green.

Good feel off the putter face and my distance control was similar to my normal proV1.

Overall I was very impressed with the performance of the balls.

  15. Hi. Thanks for the balls. Great feel when chipping, plenty of stop. Very nice feel on the green. didn't notice much difference off the tee from the present PRO V1.

    Thanks Ian P

    Thank you Titleist,

I received the test balls and first impressions were good. The finish was excellent.

Did some putting and chipping to see how they compared to various balls that I have used previously and they feel soft but still give a good roll off the putter face and distance control was excellent with them.

On chips they spin up and stop very quickly which is very good as I like to fly the ball nearer the hole in the current course conditions.

I've used them for 3 rounds now and they have hardly marked even after bunker shots which normally scuff the ball up.

They spin really well on full iron shots into greens and seem to go slightly longer off the driver. I hit a slight draw and they are not overly spinning sidewards.

I would like to find out what they are and when they will be available for sale.

  17. Received my 3 test Pro v1x balls a couple of weeks ago, have now had a chance to use them. I think that they feel a little bit firmer of the club head, but don't think that there is much differnce in distance to normal.  I think that they stop a bit quicker as well. Still got a lovely feeling of the putter.

Hi first of all thank you for sending me the test balls, I play off 5 at Worksop golf club 47 year old playing with 913 woods ap2 714 irons and scotty Cameron putter .

first time playing with test ball red number (prov1x) weather dry and about 15 degrees , first of all on practice putting green the ball seemed to make a different thudding noise when putting but still a nice feedback off putter face .

onto course ! First hit driver pulled left into trees and bounced back onto fairway (good ball!) no Mark on it at all . Hit 52 degree vokey for second shot and it felt lovely and crisp with good amount of spin seemed to go a little further than old ball (is it a little harder ?) through the rest of round it was some tree hits also as we've got lots at Worksop and fairways too we've got them also !

the ball was was performing extremely well into wind and also when cross wind came up, very impressed overall !!

gave my son who's 17 and off scratch one of the balls he's playing with mb712 and 913 woods also with scotty putter and he also was impressed with the playing ability of the new ball .

thank you for allowing me to test them I will try the prov 1 ball this weekend and let you know how that performs

Used the balls three rounds (now new one each time)

Usualy use the ProVx and this ball felt more or less the same, Hit some really good drives but nothing much longer than usual but ball kept straighter.

Biggest bonus was around the greens short game and putting big improvement (unless it was just one of them rounds)

overall excellent as all titliest balls are

A mysterious parcel arrived with a white sleeve of fresh test balls. I tried them out over a few rounds and they felt very nice, seems to be softer than my normal pro v1, felt very nice on short chips and putting.

I am assuming they are the new pro v1, does anyone know any more??? When are they coming out?
